ICSET 2026 Keynote Speakers announced

It is with great pleasure that the International Congress on Shoulder and Elbow Therapy (ICSET) can
announce that Professors Joy MacDermid & Chris Littlewood will present the Keynote Addresses at the
upcoming ICSET 2026 to be held in Vancouver, Canada, from September 23rd to 25th 2026.

Joy is a Distinguished Professor of Physical Therapy (cross-appointed to Surgery) at Western University. She holds a Canada Research Chair in Musculoskeletal Outcomes and Knowledge Translation, and The Dr. James Roth Chair in Musculoskeletal Measurement and Knowledge Translation. She is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences and The Royal Society of Canada and was appointed to the Order of Ontario. She has published over 700 peer-reviewed research papers and ranks in the top 2% of scientist in her field worldwide. Her research focuses on upper extremity function, musculoskeletal health, design and evaluation of surgical and rehab interventions/programs, public safety personnel health, work injury, implementation science, and the intersectional impact of sex and gender and other personal/social factors on health. She is the Editor of the Journal of Hand Therapy.

Chris Littlewood PhD

Chris is a Professor of Rehabilitation at the University of Salford, Manchester, United Kingdom and honorary Professor of Musculoskeletal Research at University Hospitals Derby & Burton NHS Foundation Trust. He has published over 120 peer-reviewed research papers and has been awarded over £7.5 million pounds in research grant income. His research is currently focused on understanding the lived experience ofpeople with musculoskeletal pain conditions, including people with shoulder and elbow pain, their information needs, and incorporating shared decision-making into the development and testing of treatments. He was chair of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy’s Scientific panel from 2017 to 2022 & has been awarded an honorary fellowship of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy in recognition of his contribution to research and support for clinical-academic career development. He is also Associate Editor
for Musculoskeletal Science & Practice.

Focused Symposia Format

  • Each Focused Symposium will be 1.5 hours in duration
  • A member of the Symposium team will Chair the Symposium
  • It is anticipated that each Focused Symposium will include presentations from each panel member, discussion between panel members & discussion with the Symposium audience.

 

Abstracts are invited that:

  • synthesize the findings of the latest research into shoulder & elbow dysfunction
  • apply the findings of the latest research to current management of shoulder & elbow dysfunction
  • address new & unique developments in the management of shoulder & elbow dysfunction
  • describe innovative ways in which the management of shoulder & elbow dysfunction has been adapted to meet the changing needs of clinical practice

 

Selection Criteria

  • Submitted abstracts will undergo a blind review process conducted by international reviewers.
  • Preference will be given to international Symposia teams i.e. consisting of presenters from different countries/regions.
  • The following principles will be used to review Abstracts:
    • The significance/importance of the topic addressed in the Symposium to an international audience of shoulder & elbow therapists
    • The contribution of the Symposium to the advancement of evidence-based management of shoulder & elbow dysfunction

Workshops – Call for Abstracts

Workshop Format

  • Workshops will be 1.0 to 1.5 hours in duration
  • It is anticipated that Workshops will be largely practical sessions in which Workshop participants are, for example, engaged in exploring examination &/or treatment techniques, developing in depth clinical reasoning skills, critically evaluating exercise strategies etc.


Abstracts are invited that:

  • explore innovative, evidence-based examination & treatment strategies for shoulder & elbow dysfunction
  • incorporate the latest research findings to the clinical reasoning process in the assessment & management of shoulder & elbow dysfunction
  • explore innovative ways in which the management of shoulder & elbow dysfunction can been adapted to meet the changing needs of clinical practice


Selection Criteria

  • Submitted abstracts will undergo a blind review process conducted by international reviewers.
  • Preference will be given to international Workshop teams i.e. consisting of presenters from different countries/regions.
  • The following principles will be used to review Abstracts:
    • The significance/importance of the topic addressed in the Workshop to an international audience of shoulder & elbow therapists.
    • The opportunity provided by the Workshop for the development of practical hands-on & clinical reasoning skills.
    • The contribution of the Workshop to the advancement of evidence-based management of shoulder & elbow dysfunction.
